Message General Aviation (piston) powered aircraft use 2 plugs per cylinder and 2 magnetos to fie the plugs at the same time. One of the preflight checks you perform prior to take-off is a mag check. The ignition key or switch has selections for #1, #2, both, and off. When you switch the key to #1 or #2 vs both you can see the rpm drop and feel a very disernable difference in engine performance.
